GUIDELINES:  SAM'S DOT STORY COLLECTIONS

 

Sam's Dot Publishing publishes short story collections in trade paperback perfect bound format.  Collections range in length from 15,000 to 25,000 words.  We're looking for stories that are speculative in type--science fiction, fantasy, or horror, in that order of preference.  Although we will consider reprints, but would like some original stories in the collection.

 

How to submit your story collection:

 

Please do not submit your collection directly.  First, send a query letter of approximately 500 words telling me about the collection.  Based on the information in the query letter, I will then decide whether to ask for the manuscript.  If I want to see it, I will tell you how to submit it.

 

Send your query letter to me at sdpshowcase at yahoo dot com.  You will have to convert this address to a usable address, of course.  We're trying to avoid being inundated by spam.  Be sure to put STORY COLLECTION in the subject line [or I might inadvertently delete your query as spam].  Response time for queries is 2-4 weeks.  Response time for submissions can be up to 3 months or longer.

 

Payment for story collections is $20.00 plus 10% of actual print sales and, if also released as an e-book, 60% of actual e-book sales; contributors may also purchase unlimited quantities of their work at 30% off the cover price.

 

Note:  We receive a lot of horror.  Most of it is horrible, and we turn it down.  There is so much horror out there that it does not sell well, generally.  Therefore, we're not going to publish a lot of it.  We do not want gore, blood, intestines, etc.  Nor do we want tales of abuse and revenge, because these are so limited in character complexity.  What we are looking for, horrorwise, are good stories that are spooky.

 

Special Note:  We greatly prefer science fiction and fantasy, and these genres will gain most of our attention.
