wooden ships

tar gets brittle in vacuum         

and fish are scarce

but the seas of red sand

the beasts that scream at night

the robot attendant mocks us        

with his atomic smile

we hate him

but he can bench two-thousand pounds

with one hand

we age

before his ever clear eyes
