STAR PILOT NOTES

Andrée's notes. . . .

What can I say? I began work on SP four years ago. Wow. I ofttimes talk like Shaula in real life, so his character was easy enough for me to imagine, relate to and develop. The setting I chose allowed me to cheat all I wanted to on the science end of the work. AGNUS-G reminded me of the computer companion from the Red Dwarf (Brit comedy) TV series. She would fill in as Shaula?s female entity, although she is not actually a she. And Noreen with the family farm simply cracks me up. The whole serial is told through a series of S.O.S. transmissions. It?s a tale that bakes drama, humor, poetry and horror ? oh yeah, and science fiction too ? into a wacky batch of cosmic cookies.

I had Jim Baker or J ? can?t recall - look at SP a while ago. They thought it was good stuff but hard to place being somewhat experimental. I got a ?no thanks? for trying, so in the file cabinet it went. When I rediscovered it a few months ago, I figured the Creator?s Club was the perfect site for an odd piece like SP, especially since I?m the Editor. Well, tee-hee and duh to you and me both.

There was just one problem. I actually didn?t want to work on the serial alone ? too ambitious for moi - so I thought of asking somebody else to do the artwork, and to get a second person to help with the writing and tweaking. I first e-met Terrie Relf and Teri Santitoro (7ARS) years back through Tom Brinck?s Scifaiku poet list. I begged all the list members to submit their three-liners to Jim and J after I had warmed them up to the style.

Terrie and Teri answered the call, and the scifaiku invasion has grown popular at SDP (formerly ProMart) ever since. Their involvement and dedication here has grown too. I truly wanted to give these two talented ladies and friends an even better (homier) feeling than the one they already discovered since first joining Jim?s small press endeavors. So I just had to invite them to do SP with me. And, to my delight, they eagerly accepted. Thanks gals. You made my whole year.
