Pure Poison

"I took the inspiration for this poem from three images created by Cathy Buburuz.
They were Altrasian Art, Altrasian Serpent and Alien Ocean. As well as beauty, the
drawings have a slightly sinister quality to my mind. I believe that although there
is peace and harmony among the natural inhabitants of the ocean, the chemical
composition of the water means it's unlikely that it will support other life forms."

They live in peace and harmony
Their serpent bodies intertwined,
Swimming in a crystal ocean
Resonant with life and amity
But do not dip your fingers in
Or dive into that perfect scene
Pure poison is the acid sea
It eats your flesh; destroys your bones -
Its chemistry for you and me
Is poison, my dear, pure poison...
