Lornas of the SentinelsbyAndrée Gendron© 01/17/04
"These creatures are variations on the same species. They each live on one of the five islands known as Sentinels located in the Great Island Sea. Each Lorna developed its own adaptations in isolation from its cousins. Lornas have only slightly different coloring. Their distinct differences show more in their unique shapes, appendages, and eating skills.
"The Cré Lorna uses its thick tongue to remove crustations found clinging to the rocks. The Bré Lorna spears small fish with its tail, while the Shé Lorna spears them with its long snout which doubles as bait. The Fré Lorna uses its broad jaw as a vacuum for sucking up microscopic organisms, while the Gré Lorna gathers them by sweeping its bearded tongue side to side like a net. "This pencil sketch was inspired by the map of Tyrtioma by Tyree Campbell."
