Jade’s famished creatures gather
In a dank and secret place
With muzzle, snout and stoma,
They move silently apace.
With hoof and claw and padded paw,
They tread the vegetation
And, surging swiftly forward,
They devour the dark plantation.
And even while they’re feeding
They prepare a last goodbye
For the way they eat the leaves
Is what determines how they die.
