GUIDELINES FOR NOVELLAS, POETRY COLLECTIONS AND SHORT STORY COLLECTIONS

General:

The reading staff for novellas and collections consists of:

Tyree Campbell, Managing Editor

Poetry Editor:  to be assigned

Story Editor:  to be assigned

Project Editors:  to be assigned

Most publishers turn down 60% to 70% of the material they receive [and often even more than that].  So do we.  We are looking for well-crafted material with which we can make money so that you can make money [but do not expect to be able to quit your day job].

Your query letter and submission will be read by at least one of us.  We'll announce assigned editors as soon as we have them on board.  Once a submission has been accepted, it will be assigned a project editor, who will oversee everything up to the final copy--we want to dot i's and cross t's before publication.

Payment for novellas, poetry collections, and short story collections is $20.00 plus 10% of actual sales, and contributors may buy unlimited quantities of their book at 25% off the cover price.

1.  Novellas:

Sam's Dot publishes novellas in trade paperback perfect bound format.  Novellas range in length from 15,000 to 25,000 words.  We're looking for stories that are speculative in type--science fiction, fantasy, or horror, in that order of preference.  Although we will consider reprints, original stories will receive the highest priority and attention.

How to submit your novella:

You cannot submit your novella directly.  You must query first.  Send a query letter of approximately 500 words telling me what the story is about.  Based on the information in the query letter, I will then decide whether to ask for the manuscript.  If I want to see it, I will tell you how to submit it.

Send your query letter to me at sdpshowcase at yahoo dot com.  You will have to convert this address to a usable address, of course.  We're trying to avoid being inundated by spam.  Be sure to put NOVELLA in the subject line [or I might inadvertently delete your query as spam].  Seriously!   Response time for queries is 1-2 weeks.  Response time for submissions can be up to 3 months.

2.  Poetry Collections:

Sam's Dot publishes poetry collections in trade paperback perfect bound format.  We prefer collections that have at least 1/3 new material.

How to submit your poetry collection:
