A Matter of Respect in the Louisiana Bayou

He buried Evangeline under a gnarled tree

where a fine array of great-winged birds

wreak havoc in the sky,

where an underground stream

runs through her;

Surrounded by exotic flowers by day

and jasmine candles by light,

her resting place became

a montage of fragrances that seemed to beckon

all passers-by;

Some came to honor her,

others to defile

her consecrated ground.

One old pervert

who dared to piss on her grave

lies fifty yards away,

a black and blue corpse...

his prime part

used as gator bait.
